“My predicament is a divine arrangement to better reposition me…”MR. UCHECHUKWU KING EJIKE

The world of a thirty (30) years old Mr. Uchechukwu King Ejike is solitary as he feels the heat of the sun but doesn’t see its light, and as he is told, the brighteness of the moon but doesn’t know the difference between night and day. He doesn’t know where one begins and where one ends. Everything to him is black. Everything has been black for much of his life.

Mr. Uchechekwu has been adapted to the dark world. Ability to adapt to situation is one of the inherented character in man but some fail to utilise this potentials; falling into self pity, depression and blaming people and God for their predicaments.

Watching Mr.Uchechukwu, the blind keyboardist display mastery at the keyboard with a golden voice that cause emotional sensation leaves one in no doubt that God richly blessed mankind with talents. Spending five  minutes with this visionary man would set any able bodies man thinking about himself in the light of fulfilling purpose and devine destiny.

Uchechukwu King Ejike hails from Dikenafai in Ideato Local Governement Area in Imo State. He was born in April 23, 1980 with cartarate in both eyes leading to partial blindness.

At infant, he could only see a little and that accorded him the opportunity to access early education at Ireti Nursery and Primary School, Badia Ijora, Lagos.

According to him, “growing up was challenging because I spent most of my time visiting hospitals, churches and herbal homes with my mother and grandmother in search of solution for my blindness.”

Furthermore, Uchechukwu’s sight problem became an issue for his parents. In his words,“my father fail to accept the responsibility for my upbringing which according to him, I would be unable to make meaninful contribution to the home but would rather be a liability. Thus, he backed out, leaving I and my mother to our fate.”




However, all attempt in search of remedy for Ejike’s blindness seems aborsive after series of surgical operation which lead to his total blindness at age eleven. Coping with blindness at the initial stage wasn’t easy. “I felt really bad”, Ejike Confessed.

His quest for miracle had taking him to Churches. That had increased his love for God which had drown him closer to the musical band. He has writing several gospel songs. Due to his love for music, his mother who was eager to give his son formal education bought a piano for him which became the limelight of his greatness.

With piano at home, Uchechukwu began to try his fingers on the keys until through trial and error he discover he could make meaniful sounds.This accord him great recognision as his music career became an  outlet to win souls for Christ.

However, Uchechukwu began to have a new sense of living, seeing his predicament as a call. According to him, “I sense the seed of greatness in me while I could see and I determined to venture into drug trafficking but I feel this predicament was a devine arrangement to better reposition me to fulfil my purpose on earth.”

“I see my situation as a calling; it was this problem that took me from Church to Church until I met Christ”, King said. He advised others in similar condition to trust God. In his words, “in any situation you find yourself, after much medical attention and prayers without solution, just know that your condition is for a purpose. As for me, I am no longer troubled about my sight. Some people keep crying, “God why me?” God cannot make a mistake, He is a perfect God. Whatever he does is for a purpose. Try to discover God’s purpose, it will help you accept your predicament and to have peace.”

Mr. Uchechukwu has been very successful in his music career. His musical band is raising vibrant youths toward attaining excellent of purpose and dream. According to him, “I think music is getting interesting every day. We now have some foreign artistes coming to Nigeria for shows and making collabo with artistes here. It is coming up well and gospel musics had been given great prominence.”

“Today we have studios even in homes. It is quite unlike those days when it was very difficult to find one to work with. Music has become part of the country and is doing well”.He said.

According to his Producer, Christian David, Uchechukwu is a talented youth star whose music is making waves in the country especially in the  Eastern part of the country. “I am proud of him because he is committed,humble, diligent, consistent and hardworking. Infact, I made bold to say though he is blind but he can see perfectly because of his great mental alertness.”

“I see Nigerian music industry as the fastest growing industries in the country because we actually started music not too long ago but now we are the best in africa. When you talk about video clips and the rest, we are the best. Even in terms of awards, Nigerian music is the bomb for now”, the Producer added.

Mr King is a public orator who has affected many lifes positively toward the attainment of their goal and meeting their needs.

Meanwhile,he noted that his love for music is without bound. “I love music so much because that is where I derived my fun from with my friends, wife, family members and children.I have produced a lot of music such as Narekele (give thanks to God), God of possibility, My Papa etc.”

“Notwithstanding, my personal goals is to be the best person I can be in what ever am doing and be able to help people as much as I can especially the less privileged and the physically challenged people”, He said.

According to Helen Keller, the blind and deaf legend who made her conquest of disabilities a symbol of hope for others has this to say…
“the public must learn that the blind man is neither a genius nor a freak nor an idiot. He has a mind which can be educated, a band which can be trained, ambitions which it is right for him to strive to realize, and it is the duty of the public to help him make the best of himself so that he can win light through work.”
